We walked into the Vet office today around 2:30 to pick up Sam from his teeth cleaning etc and to talk about Prancer’s blood work results. The first thing the doctor says to us is “Better put Sam in the car, we have a lot to go over.” Of course PolyVector and I immediately start to panic. My stomach felt like it was sinking down into my knees. So, PolyVector returns from putting Sam in the car and the doctor turns to us saying Sam’s blood tests turned out great and explained how to take care of his leg while it heals from the wart removal. His eye and teeth look great also. So everything with Sam went perfectly fine. Now comes Prancer’s results…everything was actually really good. His Potassium and damnit I forget what else was a little high, and the heart murmur again seemed to cause no concern. Today we talked to a different doctor, and all that needs to be done is keep our dogs on a senior diet. You have no idea how relieved I felt after all this. Sam will be getting his stitches out in two weeks and Prancer will be getting another blood test done in one month to be sure his levels of Potassium etc. are not getting any higher. Even though these past few days have been extremely expensive I am very glad it was done and everything is ok.

Today started off pretty awful. As soon as we get up we noticed Princess had barfed on the kitchen floor. So we let all the pup out for their morning bathroom break and Princess darts in like you wouldn’t believe and starts dragging her butt all over the floor. She had gotten a poo stuck and was getting it all mashed in the carpet, and on the recliner, and on the couch….Not sure if you know what a :stuck poo” is but I shall give a brief explanation. Usually with small dogs they end up eating some hair and when they go to the bathroom a poo will get stuck on it and dangle from their butts. It is not pleasant to say the least. After cleaning up the house and getting Princess in the bath we rushed off to the vet…we were late, but luckily we still were able to get Prancer all checked out.
Now the vet. I wouldn’t say the visit today was awful, but it definitely held its share of bad news. Prancer has a heart murmur…while I know this isn’t something extremely serious, I still didn’t wanna hear there was something not particular normal with his heart. We are having some blood work done to insure his kidneys and liver are functioning well. The results should get back to us Monday afternoon. Other than that everything went pretty well. He had his teeth cleaned, a rabies shot, and his nails clipped. We are giving him antibiotics to kill any infection he has in his gums. He also lost one of his front teeth during the cleaning. Poor little guy, he was screaming back there. So for being 14 they said Prancer is in good health. I just hope the blood test doesn’t show anything abnormal.
PolyVector and I have just returned from the Flagstaff Animal Hospital. Sam went in today to get an update on his shots as well as a checkup. The staff was pretty funny. They couldn’t believe he was 10yr old, made me smile. Anywho, everyone was pretty friendly and if I was a normal human being without social anxiety I am sure I would have been fairly comfortable. The Doctor was very good with Sam even though he tried to bite her. He was just not in the mood to get looked at this morning. I am just happy to hear she felt he was in good health. Sam will be going in Monday though for a few procedures. He needs a teeth cleaning, he has a wart on his left front leg that is going to be removed and while he is under for his teeth and wart they are going to go ahead and trim his dew claws. I am a little nervous leaving Sam with them for 4 hours but I am sure they will treat him fine. Prancer goes in tomorrow morning so we’ll see how he’s doing.
MegaNice9 has been branching out into new comic genres lately like “Obese Marmoset” and “Atheist Superhero”… I think they both could be counted as one if you consider Snee a freak of evolution :)… Anyways, she has Richard Dawkins shooting “educational bullets”… so I suggest you all read it now, or suffer the consequences!
Enjoy!
Wow, I didn’t realize how much time has gone by since PolyVector and I adopted Sam. I was going through our pups records since it is time for a visit to the vet. Prancer and Sam both need to get updated on shots as well as a check-up to make sure they are in good health. As I was looking at some of the paper work I glanced over at their date of birth. Sam just turned 10 May 4th, and Prancer will be turning 14 on November 5th. I am sure some of you are thinking how could I not tell how old my dogs are. If you knew them you would be going “wow” too. These dogs do not act/look their age….ok maybe Pran looks his age but that dog has gone through a lot. Sam on the other hand still acts/looks like a pup. Go through our flickr feed and tell me otherwise. ;) Maybe I will always see my dogs as puppies though.
Yesterday Don Herbert, or as we all know him “Mr Wizard,” died yesterday at the age 89. Ars Technica has a good article on his life and the path that took him onto everyone’s television in the 70’s and 80’s. I remember seeing Mr. Wizard still airing in 2001 and I am sure you can still find it airing even today on some station. Looks like Bill Nye will have to be everyone’s go-to guy now, but Mr. Wizard will always have a special place in my heart.
I have known the creator of SCTV for awhile now, I mean I am dating her brother. And ever since I met her she has always been drawing, and one of my favorites has always been Snee. Is he the funniest thing I have ever seen. He is finally making it to a comic on Slime Culture now and I couldn’t be more pleased to see him getting a frequent strip! If you are a fan of anything Slime Culture then you must take a peek at the newest Snee comic, “Just Say the Word” featuring Snee’s best friend Merl (sp?). MeagNice9, this is my formal plea to keep Snee alive!
Apple’s Word Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) is today. I always get excited waiting for all the new software and sometimes hardware to start getting announced. Today should have a pretty big emphasis on OS X 10.5 “Leopard.” There are a few ways to get your updates when not attending. You can always refresh your favorite blog or tech site over and over as they poor a hand typed up transcript of what’s going on, join an IRC channel that is doing pretty much the same thing, or wait for the video hosted by Apple to get released. Which is usually pretty quick to appear after the conference is over. Here are some links to help you if interested.

Enjoy, everything should be starting about now (10am PST). I am going to be kicking back on Gizmodo. If you wanna discuss all the new goodies feel free to join up with me on IRC at irc.blitzed.org #punksoftware hope to see ya there.
Update: Following the text version of the keynote still made me want to check out the webcast as soon as Apple gets it up. I am currently testing the Safari 3.0 beta, and so far so good. I don’t see any gigantic changes, but I do like the ability to have more control over my tabs. If you haven’t done so yet I recommend taking a peek at all the new demo videos on the Leopard site.
I am sure you guys have all noticed we are huge Slime Culture fans and are always posting updates to any new comics that escape the brain of MegaNice9. Well, she has done it again and whipped up a cute and as always, funny comic featuring Nintendo’s beloved Mario. She was also nice enough to include a recipe for the daring. So if you are brave go check out “Fly Kicks” over at SCTV.
Today Willow took Princess to PETsMART and naturally PolyVector and I went along to get some stuff for our pups too. It was actually a pretty productive trip. Willow grabbed some skin care products for Princess to help with her irritation/dry skin, and we picked up some more carpet cleaner and yet another snack for the pups to try. As we were standing at the register Princess some how squeezed out of her collar and took off out the doors. WIllow ran off like a shot and caught up with her. Was quite amazing and scary. I am very glad nothing happened beyond her getting out the doors.
