Well after a long search for the source of the server problems I think we’ve narrowed it down to a battered mysql server. Most of the CMS’s we run on our various sites don’t have an option to use a “persistent connection” to the database which meant that every page-view on every site was establishing a new connection. Since we get millions of page-views a month, our poor little server was having a heart-attack… I modified a few files in Joomla, MODx , and our own code to utilize persistent connections and so-far-so-good… We should know by tomorrow if we’ve solved the problem and can stick w/ our current server for a while longer. :)

PolyVector and I keep pretty different hours from what people consider to be “normal.” Today when we woke up I had a desktop made up of messages on instant messenger telling me our server has been down. They were from friends and family a like. And the unfortunately, my away message had been “Sleepin’.” Guys, if my away message is “Sleepin’” and the server is down, try giving us a call. Chances are, I am really sleeping.
Anywho, I guess this is one of the down falls of running a company with only two people and both of them live together. There is not another person living separate hours to catch these things. If anyone does happen to notice the servers down and you IM me and my away message reads “Sleepin’” please call us!
Ok, sorry for the bitching. This was not fun to wake up to, we are gonna look into some options as far as the server goes and get this remedied.
