Today was our last here in California and we spent it rockin’ out to 80’s tunes. We decided on grabbing a wireless guitar to go with Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80’s. We’ll be leaving tomorrow around noonish to barricade ourselves up in Flagstaff.
As for GH Encore: Rt80’s, it is pretty much exactly like GH II,same characters with 80’s clothing. No new guitars, no bonus songs to “purchase,” but the songs available for playing are extremely fun and challenging. Definitely a game to add into any Guitar Hero fan’s library. I am gonna be pretty distracted for the next few weeks. For those who have never played any GH games, they have tremendous replay value.
The pressure completely overwhelmed us and we ended up purchasing “Quiet Cool.” Stillie had the pleasure of sitting through this awful piece of PolyVector, MegaNice9 and myself. Not to much I can say except DO NOT PURCHASE. Well, our “Q” quest is not covered. But please feel free o give us your suggestions. There has got to be a “Q” movie worth buying out there somewhere.
While our hunt for a “Q” movie is still on we did happen to purchase a movie called “Killzone.” With a name like that, how could we possibly pass it up. It was get a kung fu movie that was acclaimed to have the best choreographed fight scenes ever or “Ace Ventura Pet Detective.” PolyVector and I chose “Killzone” while MegaNice9 bought Ace Ventura. Sadly, Ace was definitely the better choice. “Killzone” was seemed to go on about revenge while taking place during Father’s Day. I never saw any fighting. In fact, it was so boring I happened to fall asleep. MegaNice9 and PolyVector did say that there was one fighting scene lasting about two minutes that was the most amazing thing they ever saw. But this one definitely isn’t worth owning.
Well, to save face on the awful movie choice Sally picked up our spirits by renting “Slither” and “The Good Shepherd.” Both of which were very watchable. “Slither” almost made me barf all over Sally’s new carpet. While the movie was supposed to be more campy and humorous than scary, I still managed to get creeped out and disgusted by all the creepy crawlies. I guess I am just a big baby. “The Good Shepherd” on the other hand was very involved and interesting. I enjoyed it and actually will probably fork out the dough to own this.
I know I am no movie reviewer, but I just thought I would toss up what we have been doing these past few days here in Southern California. Till tomorrow!
PolyVector and I have recently discovered we have every letter of the alphabet covered in our movie collection except Q. Being a little OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) we can’t let this slide for much longer. So I am asking any of our faithful blog readers to please pull your brains together and give us any movie suggestions that begin with Q. While here in San Diego we have scoured the Borders and Best Buy for films. We have yet to go to the Fry’s Electronics for this purpose. But hopefully we can get a few suggestions before blindly grabbing any film that begins with this elusive letter. We wait with open minds and wallets.
Polyvetor and I are known for liking really bad movies. And we don’t like them because we think they are well done or for whatever other reason more serious people might say, we actually like them because they are down right awful. So, by a fluke whim we decided to go to Fry’s Electronics to look at games and happened to go by the movie section and see that Escape from L.A. was there. We had bought Escape from New York there while we still resided in San Diego. Seeing Escape from L.A. there was a surprise and of course we picked it up. In fact, we even watched it last night with MegaNice9 and Sally. They had never seen Escape from New York (L.A. being the sequel), so we had to bring them up to speed. Was an excellent way to end the evening.
Today on the other hand, is MegaNice9’s birthday and we have had a fun filled time doing Resident Evil 4 speed runs, trying to walk the fasted awkwardly around the house, sharing presents, and eating Moussaka. the night I am sure will finish with a pineapple upside down cake and Gears of War. I don’t think a birthday could have been anymore fun.
Looks like today was more productive than we originally planned for. We got up and decided to take the car in to get the air conditioner fixed, which proved to be cheap and very effective. After about an hour and half and $120 later we have a car that capable of freezing Polyvector’s hands off. All in all I would say it is safe to travel through the desert once again.
Well, I am sitting here at 3:30 AM with PolyVector’s parents talking about a magnet motor after a seven hour trip from Flagstaff to San Diego. The ride was extremely hot. In fact, we’ve decided we absolutely cannot make the trip back without getting the car’s air conditioner fixed. So that is going in tomorrow morning. With the extreme heat, Sam got horribly sick outside a Burger King in Gilla Bend. I don’t think I have ever seen a dog barf so much. I felt horrible for him. He had plenty of water and we made sure none of the pups had eaten a good four hours before leaving. Prancer is a dog who rarely pants. He loves being hot and under a blanket. This trip proved to be a little too hot. He was panting the whole way. The only dog who didn’t seem to have an issue on this trip was Princess. She stayed in the back and really didn’t make a peep once we got going. I don’t think this is any indication of what our stay is gonna be like, but you better believe the trip back is going to be a lot cooler. Anywho, I am feeling a tad incoherent seeing as I’ve been up since 5 AM yesterday morning, I’m off to bed.
Tomorrow PolyVector and I leave for California to visit his sister for her birthday. We’ll bring the camera in case something wacky happens, but I wouldn’t hold your breath. This also means that blogging may come to a slow down. Hopefully everything will resume to a normal pace in about a week (give or take a day).
Ok, so maybe E3 does have something to show us this year. And that is the new guitars that are going to be showing up for Guitar Hero III on the Wii, Xbox 360 and the PS3. PolyVector and I are still waiting for Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s to be released, but with the future looking good thanks to the new wireless guitars, I am thinking the Wii might not be such a bad console to start playing this game on. I have a little Joystiq blurb on different console pricing etc. So enjoy and I hope you get your Guitar Hero fill.
Red Octane’s new wireless guitars, but what’s Xbox 360’s extra cost?:
Red Octane showed us their new wireless controllers coming to Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii with the release of Guitar Hero III this fall. The Wii version (seen above), allows you to put your Wiimote into it via a flap in the back. There is no word yet on why you would need to do this, if it’s only to activate “star power” it just seems a little superfluous. The rest of the controllers look fine and the buttons are in the perfect place so you don’t “pull a Peter Moore” in GH III like you would in Rock Band. In all fairness, Harmonix is already planning a software fix so gamers don’t do the same thing as Moore.
The best part about the new guitars is that you can take the guitar’s neck off of the body by toggling a switch in the back and pulling. They wouldn’t let us take pictures of this and they had none available. The new separation feature makes storage and travel easier, it also opens up the option for different types of necks. Also, there were an assortment of quality plastic faceplates which snap onto the guitar and come off easily by pressing an eject button on the back. Because all the faceplates were “prototypes” we couldn’t take pictures of those either. Anyway, the new Red Octane guitars look and feel really good. Oh, and they moved the Xbox’s guide button and d-pad higher up the guitar’s body to get it out of your wrist’s way. They also put the select (back) button within pinky length of the fret to activate star power by easily moving a finger instead of jarring the guitar. The redesign really looks great.
The weird news was Red Octane’s cagey attitude towards pricing between systems, the same thing we experienced with Harmonix about Rock Band. Following Rock Band’s unconfirmed price difference between Xbox 360 and PS3 wireless guitars, it looks like Red Octane hasn’t made a decision regarding their pricing of the Xbox 360 controller either. Will they charge more for the licensing fee attached to using Microsoft’s proprietary wireless? And what is the extra cost? They will supposedly get back to us as soon an answer can be authorized. Yeah, this Microsoft wireless drama is just ridiculous, especially if it forces the peripheral manufacturers to punish the consumers for Microsoft’s greed.
The greatest week a gamer could possibly look forward to has come and gone. What? You mean you didn’t know this week was E3? Didn’t you hear all the commotion of new games and electronic delights? Of course not. This year’s E3 was a huge disappointment. All the news that came out from my favorite sites like Ars Technica, Engadget, and even Joystiq, was so boring and drab I could barely even pay attention to the headlines that appeared in my RSS reader. Even the live coverage by G4TV wasn’t even worth watching. nothing particularly new and exciting was unveiled. Everything was just a rehash of videos and demos we’ve seen since the new big next gen consoles appeared. It’s especially sad when Engadget is writing an open letter of disapointment. Anywho, just thought I would share my little complaints. Even though I did not (or have ever) attended E3, the videos and news coming out were always exciting. What happened?!?!?
