How to Accept Criticism

I am sure you have all heard me say this many times, I am an RSS junkie. One of the newer feeds I have been subscribing to is called Zen Habits. I have a hard time dealing with anger at times, and PolyVector and I have both been trying to reach a more zen (or relaxed and minimal) type of lifestyle. While Zen Habits has a lot of neat articles dealing with various emotions and regular life situations I found an article that I thought a few of us should go over. I know as PolyVector and myself continue to run Punk Labs and begin new projects we sometimes have a hard time dealing with people being down right rude when giving what they feel is feedback. So I am going to try and take these types of comments and turn them into a more positive thing. Before I continue to ramble, here is the article I am talking about:

How do you deal with criticism? I think the first reaction for most of us is to defend ourselves, or worse yet to lash back.

And yet, while criticism can be taken as hurtful and demoralizing, it can also be viewed in a positive way: it is honesty, and it can spur us to do better. It’s an opportunity to improve.

[From How to Accept Criticism with Grace and Appreciation]

I know most of this sounds like common sense, but once in awhile you might need a little memory jog or some one else who is sitting in a similar situation and how they deal with those wonderfully thoughtful comments most users like to leave.

Resident Evil: Extinction

Alright, PolyVector, Willow, and I broke down and saw Resident Evil: Extinction in theaters. Was it good you ask? Well, I am a sucker for horrible movies. They tickle me, and I don’t think I could put this movie in any better words than Willow did when she reviewed it on her blog. The movie never really felt like it began or ended. We were all waiting for the action to start and right when we thought we were going to see some zombie ass kicking the movie ended. it felt rather short and constantly referencing the previous two movies. Which I think was the biggest factor in the “never starting” feel. I gotta say though, I wasn’t disappointed with the film. I went in expecting a completely awful movie with rediculous one-liners and awkward romance. I would go into more detail but do to the lack of real content this movie had to share with us I feel like I would be spoiling it. So if you are a fan fo the previous movies you HAVE to see this one as well.

I would like to say as a side note about theater going these days….too damn loud. I sat through the entire movie with peices of napkins stuck in my ears for MacGyver style ear plugs. I thought my brains were gonna leak out of my ears. I think I will have to go better prepared for the next installment of Resident Evil. Oh and I hope you enjoyed the awful picture I included in this post. Hehe.

Our Halo 3 Luck

Ok, so I pre-ordered our copy of Halo 3 almost two months ago to make sure we would be slaughtering the Flood before Target or Wal-Mart even had it stocked. Of course our luck has rung true once again and our Halo 3 disc is sitting in Denver while Target of course has plenty of Master Chief to go around. Either the Target here got their shit together for the first time ever or there are no Halo players up here in Flagstaff. I suppose all is not lost seeing as we didn’t have to pay tax or shipping and if we decided to get Halo 3 at Target we would be paying tax. So, yay for me saving us six bucks. Excuse me while I kick myself…
