I decided to try and do something semi-productive tonight and I successfully got Gravatars working with our current WordPress theme. So here’s what this is all about:
What is a gravatar?
A gravatar, or globally recognized avatar, is quite simply an 80×80 pixel avatar image that follows you from weblog to weblog appearing beside your name when you comment on gravatar enabled sites. Avatars help identify your posts on web forums, so why not on weblogs?
Now that these things are biult in what can you? Well if you sign up for a Gravatar account and use the same email when leaving a comment here on Atomac your nifty avatar will show up right next to it. I always wanted avatars for my comments here on Atomac but I never wanted to allow accounts beyond PolyVector’s and my own. So for those of you who already use Gravatars, excellent! For those who don’t, hope you tinker with it, it is useful on other sites besides here.
If you would like to incorporate Gravatars into your site, here is the code snipet I used: http://pastebin.ca/743979 I placed it right before the comment_text() call in comments.php when using WordPress.
I know I don’t talk about my family much, it’s kind of a long painful story. Just know I don’t particularly get along with them. oh we are civil with each other these past few years. Especially since the birth of my niece (who is now three years old). During my last trip to California I went down and visited with my family despite the overwhelming chances of their being some kind of fight (and there was a tiny one). Regardless I got to spend time with my niece and it was a blast. We went to the local Walgreens to check out Halloween stuff and she was scared of everything. I finally took one of those hideous rats (though I thought it was cute, in one of those Halloween sort of ways) and convinces Hannah (my niece) to not be scared of it. She immediately loved it and decided to keep it. Well she is still hanging on to that silly thing and my sister Candice snapped a few shots while she was over there this weekend. Hannah can be quite the booger but she will never turn down some pictures no matter what kind of mood she is in. So, I thought I would share them with you since they tickled me.
