A Little House Cleaning

Or should I say “blog cleaning?” Atomac went under a little maintenance today which included an update to the Mandigo theme and some logo clean up. A few days ago I went ahead and cleaned up some of the unused features I added to the site. One of which would be the various bookmarking icons that would appear at the bottom of each article. If anyone misses these please go ahead and leave a comment. I would be more than happy to bring it back if there was enough demand. Other than that the site should be in completely normal working order.

I am hoping to get back into my blogging groove despite the up coming traveling that is going to be done this month due to the holidays. I think it would be fun to get some new pictures up sometime as well. The snow is already melting here and it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting any more for some time. I have my fingers crossed that there will be more soon though.

As usually comments and suggestions regarding the site are very much welcome.

w00t Makes Word of the Year

I couldn’t pass this up. Merriam-Webster named “w00t” the word of the year for 2007. I don’t know why that surprises me so much. You would think a word that is in he real dictionary would have made it. Before I go on, here is a run down for those of you that don’t know what “w00t is:

1. w00t (interjection)

expressing joy (it could be after a triumph, or for no reason at all); similar in use to the word “yay”

w00t! I won the contest!

[From Merriam-Webster Online]

I admit to saying this quite a bit myself. w00t is a very easy word to say and for some reason it just gets the point across so much better than “yay” or “whoohooo” etc. Oh and yes the double zeros “00″ are completely necessary. “woot” just doesn’t look or feel the same to me.

So shout it out and be proud! It has been quite a w00t-tastic year.

DivX Pro is Free for a Limited Time Only

Well, it seems more sites are picking this up, but I first saw it yesterday on MacUser. Looks like you can grab yourself a legit free copy of DivX Pro.

So what does this temporarily free Pro version net you? Well, usually the only part that’s free is the software that gives you the ability to play back video; the Pro version, which normally costs $20, lets you actually encode content (even exporting from QuickTime Player or iMovie), and also contains a batch conversion utility. What does DivX get out of it? Well, your email of course, though they say that it will only be used to send you your serial number and other mailings “in regard to your product.”

[From DivX is free for all...for a limited time only]

Though there is a catch. Seems you gotta trade in your email address for this free copy of popular encoding goodness. I for one am more of a Hand Brake user and prefer to encode my videos using XviD. But for those interested go ahead and trade in your email. I do love free software, but I think I am gonna pass on this one.

Those of you that take on this deal, let me know how it goes! DivX does promise your email won’t be used for evil purposes, but then why ask for an email address at all. Tip to the wise, I would use TrashMail for this.
