Our Apple TV arrived today! In fact it wasn’t due to arrive until tomorrow, so it was a nice little surprise to get a knock on the door this morning by the FedEx guy with our shiny new toy.
The actual setup of the Apple TV is super easy. You can have it sync with your iTunes library or keep it as a stand alone device in your living room. PolyVector is actually in the middle of modding it as I write this. Since I am getting over a sort of nasty cold I slept most of the day while he prepared the USB drive needed to boot the Apple TV in order to get Perian running. I am hoping to put together a small article on modding the Apple TV once we have had complete success.
I hope you guys enjoy the slideshow of the unboxing and final resting place for the Apple TV. We are getting our living room prepared for the arrival of our Time Capsule as well, thus the huge gap in our console. More will come on that when we get our Time Capsule.
On a sort of related note, if anyone would like to recommend a nice stereo setup we would be most happy if you’d share. While the PC speakers might look unique up there, the sound really isn’t incredibly nice and we have been searching everywhere for something that might suit us. Huge note on that subwoofers are not a plus…Thanks guys!

Err… where is the TV? o_O
who needs a tv when you can have a projector ;)
How do you plan to hook it up to the Projector? O.o
Holy crap, I saw the pics again, That is a LOT of Game controllers.
And eww, is that Linksys router I see? Bleechhh. Linksys, the most unsecured router I know.
Poor AppleTV. All shiney and down there.
What do you mean how do we plan on hooking it up to the projector? The projector is hooked to a component switch box, and then all our consoles and now the Apple TV are hooked up to the box in return. So each thing has it’s own “channel.”
Yes, that is a Linksys router, and all consumer routers are insecure. Linksys (especially the router we have there) is running Linux, which makes it extremely easy to mod. The Time Capsule is going to replace that.
The reason the Apple TV is alone down there is because the Time Capsule and our Brother laser printer is going to join it. I dunno if you noticed but in the back behind the Apple TV there is also a Motorola Surfboard cable mode and a Netgear Skype phone. So it isn’t all by its lonesome.
Oh and you think that is a lot of controllers, you might want to take another peek at our apartment pictures and take a gander at all our movies/games.
Oh my LORD… That is a LOT of Games and Movies…
A shame that Wii doesn’t have DVD playing Capabilities.
Menus would be snappier at navigating.
So do you have HD-DVDs? :) Hahaha
Nope, we haven’t purchased any high def discs until we were sure of a winner in the format war. Which of course I have been neglecting to blog about. But seeing as Blue-ray has been declared the winner any new DVD purchases will most likely be Blue-ray. Of course, we don’t currently have a Blue-ray player. Still debating on whether it is going to be a PS3 or whatever.
I’ve read that PS3 will be soon having the ability to also act as a DVR! :)
That and you can Install Yellowdog Linux also makes it cool.

They even sell PS3’s with Yellowdog Linux in them
lol, I just found out that AppleTV is NOT actually a TV :P
I suppose I should have linked to the Apple TV page. Oh well. ;)
