Yet Another iMac Down for the Count

I dunno what is going on this month, it must be the heat. Turns out last night MegaNice9’s iMac G5 (iSight) turned itself off as she was preparing for bed and was unable to turn it back on. I have been searching for solutions she could try before having to schedule an appointment with an Apple Genius.

I told her for the next 24 hours let her iMac sit unplugged from all USB and power sources and see if it is just some kind of static build up. I know the solution sounds stupid, but I have had weirder things fix non-botting computers.

If anyone would like to chime in with some pearls of wisdom, we are all ears. I will be searching around the Macosphere. Apple’s troubleshooting page for PPC iMacs was no help.

Update: I made an appointment with the Apple Store in Fashion Valley (San Diego) for Thursday to get MegaNice9’s iMac checked out.

So glad the “genius” is coming. MegaNice9 really needs that iMac, especially since she’s in the process of re-developing her website.

Seriouslly, what is going on? That is craziness. Well I hope they are able to fix it. I’m still waiting on my ram to make sure that fixes any remaining problems on my mac. :/ Poor Macs.

  3. It looks to me that MegaNice9’s iMac is having a power supply problem, and that is going to be a $200 fix. After reading up on her specific symptoms with PolyVector, it seems to be exactly that. We’ll see what the Apple Genius has to say Thursday. I am always curious to see how close my own diagnosis are.

Still waiting to hear the diagnosis. At least Mega’s windows machine is working. I’m almost afraid to use the Macbook - just kidding. But it is a concern. Thank you Skunkie & PolyVector for helping Meganice9 w/ the issue. You 2 are the best friends anyone could have.

  5. Having a computer go down is always a concern. It doesn’t matter what hardware or operating system you use, eventually a computer will need fixing. So keep your important information backed up.
