TwitPic: My Answer to Posting Pictures to Twitter Using an iPhone

Despite the new iPhone 2.0 firmware being almost two weeks away I needed a solution to posting pictures to Twitter without jail breaking my phone. This is where TwitPic comes in.

On July 11th when the new iPhone firmware is released I am sure there will be Twitter clients that will have the ability to post pictures, but if you are like me and can’t wait I think you might enjoy this. It took me a little longer than a lot of fellow Twits out here but better late than never. This might also be a snazzy solution for those who might not have an iPhone/iPod Touch or a desktop Twitter client that supports picture posting.

Let me first explain what TwitPic is. Simply you upload a picture to their servers along with your tweet and they will automatically post a link to your picture accompanied by your tweet straight to Twitter. You also get your own TwitPic profile page that shows only your picture baring tweets.

So here’s the awesome part, TwitPic allows you to email them your photo and the subject of the email would be your tweet. It will look something like this on your Twitter timeline:

To get everything setup you log into TwitPic using your normal Twitter username/pass and proceed to your Settings page where you see the email address you use to post to your account. The email is your username combined with a “pin” that you can change.

This has worked great for me so far and it might continue to be my solution depending on what Twitter clients will be available for the iPhone come July 11th. But more on that later.

  1. I love that TwitPic site design. Adorable! Only one minor question about the logo, the “T” is so far away from the “W”, almost as if it’s trying to escape. More on topic: should I have pictures to share on Twitter, I will be using TwitPic in the future :D

  2. Yeah, not sure what’s going on with the logo. Probably didn’t have enough funding for a super amazing artist.

TwitPic has been super functional for posting fast “what are you doing” type pictures. Love the email function.

  4. I’m not sure I understand your question, C Dude08. The iPhone without being hacked or “jail broken” cannot upload pictures. So I was just sharing my experience using TwitPic’s email function. I wasn’t necessarily saying the iPhone is better because I can email. I know a lot of phones have this feature available to them, and some even have the ability to upload photos.

This was just merely my own solution to a problem I find the iPhone has. Perhaps I should have been more specific.
