About

We All Start Somewhere

I’d like to tell my readers that I have all the answers and secrets to making the perfect cup of coffee, but honestly I don’t. in fact, I haven’t even been “into” coffee for all that long. I mean I’ve enjoy a good cup of coffee from early on. Even having my first cup at the age of 13. But, I’ve never appreciated coffee until about 3 years ago. Even then I didn’t start off with the best setup known to coffeedom. Like most people, I started with a normal drip setup and as I became more curious to different ways coffee can be brewed I expanded the equipment I used. That is where this blog comes in. I am hoping to share my journey through coffee with those interested.

My Current Setup

Espresso Setup

I’ve very recently gotten into the espresso arena. It has been the best coffee I’ve ever had. The down side is, it is also extremely tricky to pull off a good shot consistently. I’ve managed to keep my shots in a decent range, but I am no professional barista. Setups range from Wal-Mart specials, to commercial high class mutligrouphead “God Shot” machines. I went mid ground. My weapons of choice as of right now are the Le’Lit PL041 espresso machine paired with the Le’Lit PL53 doserless, stepless espresso grinder.

What About the Coffee?

Behmor 1600

Let me introduce to you the Behmor 1600 Drum Coffee Roaster. What a game changer for me and coffee. I’ve heard a lot about home roasting from my good friend, MegaNice9. She had thought about using a modified popcorn popper to roast her own coffee. I thought little about roasting myself, especially since she was thinking about getting into it. Then as a gift, Eggplanteer (who might as well be my Mother in-law, love you!), got me a FreshRoast Plus 8. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) it arrived damaged. I didn’t realize until then that I had to roast. From there I decided on getting the Behmor and coffee has never been the same! If you don’t home roast, do it!

Special Thanks

I just wanted to give a huge shout out to PolyVector, my boy friend, who has dealt with possibly drank an unhealthy amount of coffee during my experimentation. And who has also allowed me to spend all our money on my silly caffeine obsession. To MegaNice9, the person who actually pushed me into starting to this blog. Probably to get me to shut up. Lastly, all my friends and family that have endured all my yaking and pushing to try my various brews and roasts.
