Espresso Shot made with the Ecuador Zumba Microlot

Not my usual coffee shot to accompany a short review of my current coffee trials, but I figured I’d break it up a bit. The Ecuador Zumba Microlot Especial marks the end of our light roasting experiment.

The Zumba Microlot I roasted to a Full City. This is a very clean coffee. As espresso it is very fluffy with a caramel custard dominant note. The aroma reminds me of waffles. This sweet coffee also has a slight note of citrus. I could leave the citrus honestly. I am finding that is most coffees I prefer to not have this unless it is a finishing flavor.

Now, as far as the experiment. It seems a very common note in lighter roasted coffees is honey and citrus. Now these notes might not be present in every single coffee that is recommended a lighter roast it did happen to be a similar theme in the coffees I tried. I rather like the calming of honey, especially when confronted with the acidity of lighter roasts. I am grateful for breaking myself from darker roasted coffees, but at the same time it hasn’t swayed my over all favoritism. I think I will keep lighter roasted coffees in mind, but it will never be a go-to for me. Probably save lighter coffees for special lots or toss in an order to break up the darkness.
