Hawaii Kona – Moki’s Farm
by Skunkie
After a long trial of coffee blends it feels good to get back into the simple and clean flavors of single origins. I started back with a coffee I’ve been curious to roast myself. Hawaii Kona coffee is known to be some of the best and pricey coffees available. But it is most often found blended since the price can be a problem.
Instead of going over Kona coffee in the market I’ll just end by saying it is actually hard to find this coffee in a normal store as single origin. When I was first able to try it I didn’t like it very much. I couldn’t understand what that big deal was about Kona. But after roasting it myself I think I am beginning to understand.
This unfortunately, was not the best trial. I accidentally brought the batch to a French Roast when I was aiming for a Full City. Kona is noted for very sweet and floral aromatics. At a French it is very smokey with a cocoa bitterness. It isn’t bad, but I’d much prefer this at a lighter roast.

on Moki’s Coffee roasted to a true FC or FC+. E-mail me your minimum quantity to roast and I will see what I can do to get that to you.
I fully intend on giving this another trial. I have a backlog of coffees to write about and to trial roast. Shame on me for slacking so much.
