It’s a Sad Night for Macs

Tonight I was trying to help my best friend Willow troubleshoot her ailing iMac Core Duo (first generation Intel iMac). For quite awhile now she has been getting troublesome freezing and video anomalies (lines across her iSight’s video). Just to out rule software/user error I walked her through a backup (she already had a Time Capsule, but when it comes to important family pictures and personal writings you can never be too careful) and she continued with a complete reinstall of Leopard.

Unfortunately during the reinstall she emailing me with this horrid picture of a fuzzy colored scribbling iMac. It appears her GPU is going. At least that is my best educated guess. I know exactly how she feels as her Mac sits blankly on her desk tonight as she awaits for morning to call Apple to make an appointment to see a “Genius.”

I just wanted to say I feel for ya bean!

My poor heart hurts at the thought of my Mac. I am desperately hoping the this is fixable and not for an insane amount of money. Thanks for all your help Skunkie. I feel so helpless now without a computer to look up info on. :/
