Just Another Reason Apple Rocks: FedEx Get Your Shit Straight

Apple Inc

It is no secret PolyVector and I are Apple fans. now I wouldn’t go as far as saying either of us are a fanboy (or girl) since we have no problem saying when/where/if Apple has a fault. No company is perfect and they are of course out to make a profit. Yesterday reaffirmed our like for the company though.

On April 14th we purchased a new aluminum iMac for PolyVector. it was set to be shipped on the 15th and arrive on the 17th. So we wait in agonizing anticipation for his shiny new machine. As the morning of the 17th roles around ad we awake to the awesome notification that his iMac is on the FedEx truck for delivery that day we pace around the house constantly looking out the window to catch a glimpse of one of those white trucks pulling in.

To save you a lengthy article, the iMac never came that day…nor the next 3 days (not counting the weekend). In fact, I think this little chart sums it up:

FedEx Delivery

On the night of the 18th we contacted FedEx to inform them that it might be possible the driver has the wrong information or is getting our apartment building mixed up with another (very possible here). FedEx responded asking for our phone number and other identifiable information, but after said info was given nothing was accomplished. We tried contacting FedEx several more times, and we waited till the morning of the 22nd. Thinking it was hopeless the morning of the 23nd we contacted Apple Inc explaining to them our situation in desperation that they might be able to set things straight…or at least send back the iMac if FedEx returned it. Which in an hour from the email (at around 7am) Apple called us explaining that for some reason the driver had no street to send the package too, just an apartment and city. They had made sure the driver was updated and assured us that the package should arrive. And they even gave us a backup plan which included a place to pickup the iMac in the event it never found our place.

I can’t believe after all the contacting we had done with FedEx it took Apple to set things straight within an hour.

  • Last time I used FedEx it did pretty well up here in Canada! Does that make any sense?

Thanks for RocketDoc. My Powermac 8500 finally folded after an 11 year career, and I had to switch to a Sony, because it was a gift from oldest my daughter. It is OK, but I have installed countless add-ons to give it Mac-like capabilities.

Couldn’t buy a new Mac back in 2006 because of the weak Canadian dollar. That 8500 cost $5,000 US and I-Macs were down to half that but I paint pictures for a living! Windows just isn’t that clean!

  • 1) They should have realized that “D3″ is not a valid street address, as they’re in the delivery business… duh?
    2) They should have solved it the first, second, or third time I gave them the full street address…
    3) They took down our phone number 2 times so that they could call in case of a problem… There was obviously a problem so they probably should have called.

A full week of bullshit from FedEx, then Apple solved the whole thing within an hour of opening their doors… I only wish more companies would show interest in doing their jobs like that. The worst part is when you express a preference for a company like Apple who makes great products and goes out of their way in the customer service department, you get flogged with “fanboy!” and “elitist mac user!” type comments… When did it become elitist to stick with a company that does great work? All Microsoft has ever done for me is claim that my defective $400 DVD-shredding 360 is broken because of user-error… Yeah, like I was really shaking the thing while the disc was spinning. I still can’t play my favorite game on that thing despite having 2 copies…

Maybe we just have particularly bad luck, but every company we deal with lately shows nothing but contempt and disrespect for their own customers. It seems really weird to me, and I appreciate companies like Apple that aren’t so cannibalistic…

  • Out of the zillion or so things we have bought online and this has been the only real mess up, I have no qualms with online shopping. Just wish FedEx would have at least taken the address information we gave them.

  • Hahaahaha, Amazing. Another reason why I love Apple and why I don’t buy stuff online :)

And I’m lovin my iMac too still btw :)

  • Naw, he got a 20″ 2GHz Core 2 Duo aluminum iMac and a 20″ Apple Cinema Display as a second display (which was the display used for the MacBook).

  • LMAO, wow. I am so envious right now though … is it the 24-inch iMac?
