Colombian Coffee at a French Roast
I’m pretty new to coffee roasting and tend to stay within a very tight area of Full City+ to Light Vienna. Being an espresso drinker, these tend to be my favorite roasts. Today was my very first French Roast!
The coffee roasted today was a mystery Colombian coffee brought over by PolyVector’s parents. The batch of coffee they happened to bring was big enough for me to split into three different roasts. I currently have a Behmor 1600 and to get a darker roast you need to under load the machine. I will talk more about my roaster in a later article. I ended up doing a City, Light Vienna, and a French Roast. While I have done light roasts before, the French Roast is something I’ve been a little scared to attempt out of risk to set my roaster aflame. All went well! I just hope it tastes as good as it looks. I sent them home with everything I roasted and hope to hear that it turns out good.
Oooo that does look lovely! I think you should make a profession of photographing coffee beans in all their gloriousness! I’m glad you didn’t set your roaster on fire. :D Can’t wait to get a chance to taste some famous Skunkie espresso!
Amazing what can be done with my little Casio EX-Z1050. Now if only I had something like your dSLR.
Thanks, by the way. I do love taking pictures of coffee too for some reason. I’m gonna have to do another French Roast sometime and actually brew it up French Press style.
Please let me know how that turns out French Press style. Mmmm home roasted coffee beans will probably make Teh Best French Press coffee. Mmmmmm….*drool* coffee….
I roasted such a small batch out of fear it would suck horribly, that I let Eggplanteer take it all home. They finished it off this morning,s o i hear. I think that means I did a good job. I’ll have to do another batch sometime. Even pickup the French Roast blend from Sweet Maria’s.
