Stillie’s Projector

4 #

When PolyVector and I got back from our holiday I had talked a bit about the new projection system we helped our very good friend Stillie setup. He had gotten the same setup we are currently using from April of ‘07. I wanted to share our handy work with everyone since Stillie finally got to posting up the screen pictures on his blog. While you can see the screen and some images being projected there are not shots of the projector itself. We ended up mounting the projector on a shelf which worked out amazingly well with dimensions of Stillie’s living room. The screen is a 100″ widescreen and the project is displaying in 480p. So you don’t have to go searching around the projector is an Epson PowerLite Home 20.

Edit: Stillie just informed me that he updated his post to include some up close projector pics. Be sure to take a look.

New Projector Up and Running

7 #
Our new Epson PowerLite Home 20 arrived today, and of course ripped open the box and started putting it up. Having a Wii message sitting there taunting us for the past few days made this a must (thanks Sarie). Anywho, our last projector was a Lumenlabs eVo 1.0. Part of the DIY projector community and well it didn’t work out. As Poly had said in our RIP eVo article, it had some problems and during our attempt to fix it the logic board ended up flying through the air. But just to give ya a peek at our livingroom, we have a 100″ widescreen projector screen (that sounded redundant to me) for all our gaming needs. Works good for movies too by the way. ;) You can see all the pictures after the break. Read More »

RIP: eVo Projector

4 #
Okay, so it’s official… Our 100″ eVo projector (that I mentioned in my Wiitarded post earlier) has bit the dust. It had been having problems that were building up for a while, so we decided to take it apart and fix it. Problems: 1) Glowing around the edges 2) A discoloration in the middle 3) Dirt on the LCD 4) Distorted image on the left 5) LOUD FANS What we did: 1) We sharpied around the frenzel lenses to remove the reflective glow… 2) We peeled off the discolored anti-glare layer on the LCD. This would have made the picture brighter too… :) 3) We cleaned the LCD and lenses to get the specks off… 4) We started realigning the frenzel lense to fix the distortion… when we noticed……. Somewhere along the line we had ripped an extremely delicate (paper thin) ribbon cable that could not be repaired… It was part of the LCD which meant our projector would no longer work. We attempted to melt it back together but had such a frustrating time that I found myself stabbing the controller board with a screwdriver… So now we have no car or TV. In another few months we’ll prolly be living in a cave. What a fun Friday the 13th! On the up side we bought a refurbished “Epson PowerLite Home 20” to replace it for only $400 :)… Ah, the circle of life :)
