New Server and Migrations Already Under Way

3 #

I haven’t had much time to talk about it, but yes we here at Punk Labs have been busy. Due to some unforgivable downtime, yet happily received growth on RocketDock.com, we purchased a new server to take on the responsibilities of hosting RocketDock and hopefully all our other sites.

Not counting the new server we have two servers with RocketDock.com being on its own. Although RocketDock is pretty popular it is ridiculous that the server it is currently on cannot support it with out going down once a day. So we took funds thanks to all our very loyal fans who have donated and bought a new setup. I won’t go into too many details regarding the old server, but the new guy is:

Running CentOS Enterprise
CPU : Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (4 x 2.4GHZ 8MB Cache 1066)
RAM : 4GB ECC DDR2
Hard Drive : 250GB 7.2k RPM SATAII 16MB Cache
Control Panel : cPanel / WHM
Public Port Speed : 100 Mbs Public
Private Port Speed : 100 Mbs Private
Public Bandwidth : 2000GB Premium Transfer

RocketDock.com has already made the migration over to the new server and the DNS update should (if not already) be propagated. Once we get some good statistics on how the new server is running with just RocketDock.com we will start migrating over all our other sites if the server appears to be able to handle it (and with these specs it should).

Already Time for Another Dedicated Server

2 #

Over on Punk Labs I talked about migrating RocketDock.com to a new server. It seems RocketDock.com has taken over most of our resources causing spotty stability for not only our RocketDock users but all our other sites including Atomac. So yesterday we went ahead and purchased another dedicated server. Here are the specs:

Intel P4 2.8 GHz
2 GB DDR RAM
120 GB Hard Drive
CentOS
Plesk Control Panel
1.5 TB Monthly Transfer
100 Mbps Line

This is pretty much the same server Punk Labs, Atomac and our other projects are currently hosted on.

The server is already up and running and RocketDock.com has been migrated over. It might take a little bit for your DNS to get updated. The way you can tell if you are looking at the old RocketDock.com is if user registration and upload submissions are disabled. We are hoping this drastically improves our server load for all our sites. So far, so good.

Why are You Emailing this Site About RocketDock?

2 #

You people seriously need to get a life. What compels you to use Atomac’s contact form for RocketDock stuff? What do you think this site is, free support? In case you didn’t notice this is a blog. Go somewhere else and ask questions. I would say the Punk Labs site is a good place for you to go. There is a bug tracker. If you need support go to a forum, not some blog’s contact page. We don’t go to your blog and ask you support questions about a car we both might own….though maybe we should?

Rant ended….or is it?
